Low Cost Housing(LCH)

In February 2020 Zarina Foundation launched a new cause called the ‘Low Cost House’ (LCH), a worthy project providing a roof over someone’s head.

We were in Mombasa back in February 2020, where we came up with this idea. Ismail did his research and found that a Low Cost House (LCH) Project can be built from inception to completion for a total of £1600.

The Project allows donors around the world to donate their Zakat, Sadqah or Lillah towards building a house for a family who are currently living in a mud house and coconut leave roofs, in rural areas of Mombasa, Kenya.

On the authority of Abu Huraira (RAA) from the Prophet (PBUH) who said, “Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter.” [Hadith 36; Muslim]

Allhumdulila since starting in February 2020 we have successfully built and completed two LCH’s projects within 4 months and have had great feedback from our community and donors in regard to this worthy and unique cause we are supporting. It provides us all great satisfaction and pleasure when we see how our precious funds have made a family’s life comfortable, Ma Sha Allah.

We invite you to help us built many Low Cost Houses as possible as there are endless in need of our help. In return you receive the duas in abundance by giving someone Shelter and May Allah built you a palace in Jannah.

Zarina Foundation have no financial gain whatsoever and every penny is accounted for and used in the best way possible. Our 100% Donation and Transparency Policy applies and daily updates of the project are reported back to all donators who are involved in the project.

Who Qualifies for a Low Cost House?

Our team locates a potential family who are in extreme need and generally fall in one of the following categories below:

  • Widow
  • Disabled person
  • Elderly couple
  • A person / family who have no means of owning a house built with bricks and mortar and have no income whatsoever.

There are also various other aspects we look at before qualifying someone for a Low Cost House.

How does the Low Cost House Project work?

Our team in Mombasa locates a needy person and ensures that the land their mud house is built on belongs to them, with verifications conducted with the Kenyan authorities of Land Ownerships.

Once we receive all the verification of Land Ownership, we provide the authority to start the project of completing a Low Cost House.

Our Volunteer Irfan, in Mombasa is in charge of ordering all the raw materials, solar lighting and cooking burners for project and get them delivered to the site.

The LCH is then constructed by our builders within 10-12 days (weather permitted) with the following steps.

  1. Foundations, Brickwork & Roof to completion – 15ft by 10ft area
  2. Plastering
  3. Toilet & Bathroom
  4. 100 Litre water tank
  5. 3 bulb solar lighting
  6. Cooking Metal burner designed as they currently cook on 3 large stones, causing injuries to their backs.
  7. Painting the walls a Two Tone Colour
  8. Keys are handed over to the owner and Duas recited for the donor/s.
